Job Description
An excellent opportunity has become available for a highly motivated and passionate Network planning specialist (Data and Reporting) to join the Fibre Asset Planning Team.
The Opportunity
The Network Planning Specialist plays a key role in supporting the planning of capacity and deployment of specific infrastructure platforms, to provide end-to-end services that deliver an outstanding customer experience.
This role focuses on the interrogation of data sets to solve problems and, the creation of network and performance reporting for the fibre planning team. You collaborate with your colleagues to drive data led decision making across Telstra. By providing the right insights, in the right way at the right time, you are central to our success.
Having a continuous learning mindset and strong data analytical skills will be core to your role, as you continue building technical expertise in more complex Network Planning environments, as well as supporting the planning team with data insights.
Key Responsibilities
  • Probe, source and manipulate large data sets to resolve issues or develop a solution to enable business decisions
  • Perform descriptive analysis and prepare data for use in predictive/prescriptive modelling
  • Define business problems, assist with the development of hypotheses, undertake relevant reporting, summarise the insights and make recommendations for action
  • Draw insights from data that you use to tell compelling stories that help drive data led decisions across Telstra
  • Scrutinise data for quality and accuracy, and create final synthesised data set(s) for analysis
  • Share insights and dashboards with stakeholders and coach them to elevate their data driven decisions
  • Apply knowledge of software such as SQL, Tableau/PowerBI and/or Python to analyse and visualise data from across the organisation
  • Leverage tried and tested methodologies and tools to develop solutions, identify constraints and opportunities for improvement
  • Working with reporting teams to expose metrics and other measures using Telstra datasets for management and executive team consumption
  • Continuously build and apply knowledge in network planning approaches, tools and methodologies, and knowledge of Telstra technology platforms
  • Contribute to the identification of triggers, ensuring network assets are deployed in the most cost-effective and efficient method
  • Analyse network demand and capacity to generate insights in support of network capital investment recommendations, to meet defined growth and planning objectives, corporate budgeting constraints, and infrastructure characteristics
  • Seek input from more experienced team members, gather data, use domain knowledge and analytical thinking to identify solutions to resolve specific issues or risks, in line with quality standards
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Apply sound inter-personal and communication skills to communicate with team members and relevant internal stakeholders, to deliver on agreed project outcomes
Accountabilities
  • Assist in the management of fibre planning data sets and tools.
  • Creation and maintenance of fibre planning team reports, both regular and ad-hoc.
  • Analyse relevant large data sets to draw insights that can be shared with the Fibre Planning team.
  • Assist in the analysis, modelling and curating of small to large data sets to support fibre network planning requirements.
  • Assist with the development of processes and tools to improve accuracy and efficiency of network analysis.
  • Support strategic, high volume fibre planning studies
  • Plan, manage and deploy fibre infrastructure as directed.

  • Able to manage Stakeholders within and external to InfraCo
  • Programming experience (C, Mapbasic)
  • Database management and administration (PostgreSQL)
  • Extensive software version control (SVN) experience (Git/SVN, management of code history, branching and feature development)

  • Geospatial analytical skills (gaining insights from Telstra network data)
